I was very glad to see Marty win & it was extra cool to have the three Amigos present it to him. Once departed won for editing I was sure it was going all the way.
Biggest Shocker: Pan's winning all those awards yet losing best foreign. I've heard the Lives of Others is really good and am going to go see it this week....still shocking though.
Happiest Moment: Alan Arkin, I thought Eddie was really good but Alan has been unbelievably good every time. "Glengarry", "Grosse Pointe Blank", "13 Conversations" and now "Little Miss Sunshine" I heard an NPR interview with him several months ago and he was so cool about the whole thing. I was really glad he won.
Biggest Disappointment: "Children of Men" losing in cinematography. I've heard that only cinematographers ae allowed to vote for nominees but the entire academy is allowed to vote for the winner. To me this is why every year a great perhaps suprising work is nominated but rarely wins. The same thing happened to Deakins several years back for his fantastic work on "The Man Who Wasn't There". Pan was great for set design, makeup, and story but I really thought the camera work on Children Of Men was above and beyond.
Well, in honor of awards night I must now go watch what I know to be the best movie of the year...."United 93".We'll get'em next year!
ps. Finally Scorsese gets his long deserved Oscar!!!! Kick Ass!!!
ya i did ok. not my best year, but i was laughing at the beggining there when i got those first 4 or 5 in a row (and gary, yes of course they should count as much as the bigger awards), then things started to normalize for me though.
- although i got them wrong i was very happy about alan arkin and Lives Of Others (i liked Pans Labryinth though so i would have been ok either way, but Lives Of Others really did something for me when i saw it at a local montreal film festival) - and i am totally ok with departed winning and of course: way to go scorsese, and ya that trio presenting the award to him was awesome (it made me want to grow a white beard)
