2007
Director: D.J. Caruso
what begins as a pretty fun update of hitchcock's Rear Window, loses its way with about 20 minutes left in the film. it starts off well and works for about 2/3rds of the movie as the pacing and characters take their time to build the psychological tension. but then, the last 20 minutes feels like the studio came in and told d.j. to get to the 'action' and it just completely switches into this gory/action climax that feels very tacked on - and doesn't completely make sense in the context of the story either with how i would have thought the 'bad guy' character would have acted at that moment - i mean, he was so careful throughout the film to do things properly and organized that when everything goes to shit it seems poorly thought out and rushed for no reason which is not in character (which just adds to the tacked on feel). it had me for a while, but then it just lost me, which is too bad because there was potential for something good there.
