i like mark wahlberg, i don't mind joaquin phoenix and i think robert duvall is one of the greatest actors around, but none of them could save this movie. it was too long, the story was both predictable and conveluted and once it lost me (about a third of the way through) it never got me back. there is a really good car chase in the movie though. what struck me about it was how real it felt. the cars were moving at a speed that was legitimate for the situation. sure, they were going faster, but not crazy fast given the streets and the conditions (it was raining hard). also, if i rember correctly, there was no score playing during the scene which added to the engaging nature of it. so it starts off well and there is a good car chase, but thats about it.
